Many rappers are unhappy with Kanye West's comments towards them

A recent comment from Kanye West has left a sour taste for many American rappers.

Indeed, the controversial celebrity has stated he has "invented every style of music" for the past twenty years!

The claim was made during an interview with the YouTube channel BigBoyTV :








This claim has not been taken well by the rap community. On social media, there were a lot of comments disagreeing. While many recognized the influence Kanye West has had over the music industry, they also refuted his claim.

XXL Mag has also spoke on the matter, saying that, when taken literally, Kanye West's claim was blatantly false. Dubstep, Afrobeats, Drill and Latin Traps are all genres that have emerged after Kanye West has started his career, and none were an invention of his.

However, the magazine wanted to clarify that the controversial rapper indeed had an influence in the way rap is generally associated with commercial music.

They elaborate about Ye's The College Dropout album has had a big influence on the production of rap, making it choppier, more sample-based, ever since 2004.

They also mention how the song Gold Digger has had quite an influence, as Ye experimented with R&B and G-Funk. The song was on the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 for ten weeks in a row!
